Pell Grant guidelines represent the step-by-step procedure which an applicant for the Federal Pell Grant should follow in order to qualify as well as avail the grant for pursuing higher education.

Everything in this world comes at a price and this is particularly true of college education which although instrumental for a bright future comes at a high price and hence is unaffordable for the students who hail from low income families.

As per the Pell Grant guidelines, this particular grant is described as a government subsidized program which is awarded to students like a package of gifted money and hence need not be returned. The Pell Grant has been named after the former US Senator Clairborne Pell, who introduced the program for the first time in 1973 as a means to provide educational opportunities to prison inmates. This program was later extended to students and acquired immense popularity in the 1980s’ as an educational grant.

A prospective applicant going through the Pell Grant guidelines would also learn that this grant is capable of providing quality college education to students from a weak economic background because it encompasses 5000 colleges, universities and vocational schools all of which offer a wide variety of choice in terms of courses.

It has been clearly laid down in the Pell Grant guidelines that on applying for the grant the student should be prepared for the fact that his income as well as his family’s income in terms of assets, properties, taxes and expenses would be closely scrutinized. An important point in this regard is that in case of students who have crossed 25 years, their parent’s wealth would be completely disregarded.
